Philosophy

Philosophy  …. isn’t about some old dudes talking rubbish while smoking their pipe; is one of the hard-core sciences.  It is the study of logic and reason.

When Professor Nagel teaches philosophy and admits that some things may point to God’s reality, but doesn’t want God to exist so he is caught between what he wants to be true and what is actually true.

When Richard Dawkins states  “Biology is the study of complicated things that give the appearance of having been designed for a purpose.” {Richard Dawkins, The Blind Watchmaker, 1996, p. 1}  he goes on to make a philosophical statement,   “Natural selection is the blind watchmaker, blind because it does not see ahead, does not plan consequences, has no purpose in view. Yet the living results of natural selection overwhelmingly impress us with the illusion of design and planning".  Because his philosophical worldview tells him that he cannot accept the consequences of there being a designer, he has to sideline the evidence by calling the evidence an illusion.

We are ultimately left having to acknowledge the insight of another evolutionist from the 20th century whose words are as true now and they were then.  Robert Jastrow said  “The theory of the chemical origin of life is held by scientists as an article of faith without proof."  He was an evolutionist and elsewhere in his work states that both those who believe in a supernaturally created world as well as evolutionists have ultimately to accept that it is first and foremost a matter of belief, and on that foundation both theories stand as a belief system.
