Critical Thinking

Just because someone said something was true doesn't make it so. Most people never get beyond ' I'm a doctor trust me'.

This is why our website will hang from Critical Thinking, what this is and why you ought to be doing it.

Broken promises by Politicians have taught us to think critically in that sphere of life.

Critical Thinking requires that we obtain ideas and test each one using logic and evidence. Confirmation bias, that is, simply looking for people you agree with is a false paradigm. One needs to deliberately search out ideas you'd ordinarily disagree with and show why they are wrong.

For this reason, looking at quotes from other people cannot be beaten.  We looked for people with opposite opinions to ours yet who frequently agree with us.

The institute academic for development said this...

"Being critical does not just mean finding fault.  It means assessing evidence from a variety of sources and making reasoned conclusions.  As a result of your analysis you may decide that a particular piece of evidence is not robust, or that you disagree with the conclusion, but you should be able to state why you have come to this view and incorporate this into a bigger picture of the literature"

Merely finding people who will tell you what you want to hear is so common we have a name for it - Confirmation Bias. CSM majors heavily on critical thinking and we welcome critical thinkers. This page will direct you to our critical thinking resources
